What is a Songthaew?

A Songthaew, meaning “two rows” in Thai, is a converted pickup truck featuring two parallel rows of bench seating in the back for passengers. Here’s what makes them special:

  1. Design and Structure:

   - Benches: Two rows of benches where passengers sit facing each other.

   - Space: Some Songthaews have additional standing space or handrails for more passengers.

  1. Functionality:

   - Routes: Songthaews operate on fixed routes similar to buses.

   - Flexibility: Passengers can signal the driver to stop anywhere along the route.

   - Affordable Fares: The cost depends on the distance traveled, making it an economical option for getting around.

  1. Adaptability:

These vehicles are highly adaptable to various environments and road conditions, making them ideal for navigating different parts of the city.
